Today was a beautiful day and we talked for a long while about which mountains to go to but in the end we plumped for Fleetwith Pike. We had been close to it before (see Brandreth) but today we thought we'll get Theo to his 80th fell and he kindly said let's do one I haven't already done. (We did discuss going to do Wansfell which I had previously been up).
We parked up at Honister Slate Mine and followed the mine road upwards.
You really can't go wrong on this - just keep following the road.
Eventually you go past a rough looking Bed and Breakfast place!
Think the roof might leak a bit.
Just around the corner from here you see a path out on to the fell proper and it is pretty much a direct line to the top of Fleetwith Pike.
The lady in the Honister Slate mine shop said it is the best view in the Lake District at the top and it was stunning. Looking down Buttermere to Crummock water was amazing.
For us though, Theo had reached 80 fells!
We have had so much fun doing the Wainwrights together and it's hard to believe we've completed 80 of them now. Sure you could say we've done the smaller ones but we have enjoyed each one in a different way. There are definitely some I won't bother revisiting but some, like Fleetwith Pike, I would come to again.
