After a few weeks where the weather has been foul to say the least, we settled on going to the lakes overnight. This in the week that Paul Tierney broke the record for completing the Wainwrights, an amazing 6 days, 6 hours.
We set off with the aim of doing Skiddaw but, when we arrived in Keswick, parking seemed to be at a premium. Perhaps the good weather had meant people had come up on mass for the weekend.
No matter, we went for my Plan B which was to go to the Northernmost fells and try to do a couple of them. After parking up we beagn our trek to our first target, Great Cock Up.
You can go left from the gate and head up Longlands but we were saving that for later and going pretty much as far from the car as we would be in the whole day. AS you can see above, it's a nice walk underfoot.
The path is fairly obvious and you are heading for the gap you can see in the picture above. It takes an hour or so to walk there at a gentle pace!
As you arrive at the gap there is a little bit of stone on the floor and just above here you go round the corner and can see the route to the top.
Its not too steep and the walk to the base of the fell helps to warm up the legs so it feels OK. At the top, well not the biggest cairn I've ever seen but still we'd made it!
And Dad too...
Next up we thought of lunch. But where to have it? Where better than halfway up Meal Fell...this isn't just thrown together you know!
